- It is mandatory to provide evidence of proficiency at the minimum required level, either through the online diagnostic test or proof of recent completion of English Area courses (courses completed from the 2024-1 period onwards). To register for English 6: The required level is B2.1, which corresponds to obtaining level 6 on the diagnostic test or having passed English 5.

Description
English 6 is the final level of the general English program at Rosario English Area aimed at achieving a B2 proficiency level. In this course, students will practice communicating in English in a variety of situations, using advanced grammar and an extensive vocabulary, with a focus on accuracy and precision in language use. Students who meet the minimum attendance requirement and achieve a score of at least 80 points in the end of the course, will successfully complete the course and, as a result, fulfill the university’s B2 English requirement. Failure to meet either of these criteria will result in not passing the course and, consequently, not fulfilling the university’s English requirement.
Conditions of participation
Enrolment in the course requires:
- Full availability to attend all scheduled classes, as absences result in course failure.
- Access to a desktop or laptop in a quiet, distraction-free environment.
- Camera on at all times during sessions.
- Signed commitment to participation and academic integrity.
- No schedule conflicts with work, internships, or national/international trips that could affect attendance or connection.
Fulfilment of the B2 English requirement (upon successful completion and approval of the course)
Linguistic Competence
- Use an appropriate range of vocabulary on familiar topics (work, studies, travel, health, etc.).
- Apply basic and intermediate grammatical structures with reasonable accuracy.
- Pronounce intelligibly, although with some influence from the mother tongue.
- Paraphrase when lacking a specific word.
- Correct some of their own mistakes when speaking or writing.
Pragmatic Competence
- Understand main ideas in clear conversations and simple texts related to their environment.
- Engage in short conversations on topics of interest by asking questions, responding, and describing experiences.
- Write simple and coherent texts (emails, descriptions, narratives, opinions).
- Express feelings and justify viewpoints clearly and in an organized way.
- Adapt to common communicative situations, both routine and less predictable.
Sociolinguistic Competence
- Recognize formal and informal registers and adapt their language accordingly.
- Use courtesy expressions and basic cultural norms of interaction.
- Understand and respect cultural nuances in English communication.
- Show intercultural sensitivity when expressing themselves in international contexts.
Students at Universidad del Rosario who are interested in strengthening their B2 level of English. Students who had an unsuccessful attempt at Inglés 6 (2025-1) or an unsuccessful attempt at Intensive 5&6 (2025-1).
The General English courses are structured into four modules that help students develop their language skills competently. These modules work as follows:

Each class hour covers one module, all of which share a common weekly topic for discussion.
Each student must complete a project that integrates the four areas of study.
Assessment activities:
Performance assessment is strictly qualitative, and the results are reported as "Passed" or "Not Passed." The percentages assigned throughout the course are only for reference purposes, intended to illustrate the student's progress more clearly so they can understand it and act accordingly.
The minimum passing score is 80% out of 100%, determined by the average of the following components:

It includes the following criteria:
- Classwork: 50% – including attendance, participation, interaction, and exercises completed in class.
- Synthesis Project: 35%
- Test: 10%
- Self-assessment: 5%
Communicative prerequisites
The participant must be able to:
- Understand phrases and common expressions related to areas of immediate relevance (personal information, family, shopping, work, environment).
- Interact in simple and routine situations involving a direct and straightforward exchange of information.
- Describe in simple terms aspects of their surroundings, immediate needs, daily activities, and past experiences.
- Read and write short and simple texts such as emails, forms, or descriptions.
Academic prerequisites
To be eligible for enrolment, students must demonstrate evidence of English proficiency. This may be shown through any of the following:
- An English 6 result on the placement test.
- Successful completion of Inglés 5 or Intensive 5&6 in the 2025-1 term.
General objective:
To develop communicative competence in English at an upper-intermediate level (B2), enabling students to interact fluently and spontaneously in a wide range of spoken and written contexts, understand complex texts, and produce clear, well-structured speeches, arguing and defending points of view on both concrete and abstract topics.
Specific objectives:
Linguistic
- Can express him/herself clearly and without much sign of having to restrict what he/she wants to say.
- Has a sufficient range of language to be able to give clear descriptions, express viewpoints and develop arguments without much conspicuous searching for words, using some complex sentence forms to do so
Pragmatic
- Can develop an argument systematically with appropriate highlighting of significant points, and relevant supporting detail*.
- Can develop a clear argument, expanding and supporting his/her points of view at some length with subsidiary points and relevant examples*.
- Can evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
- Can clearly signal the difference between fact and opinion
- Can use a variety of linking words efficiently to mark clearly the relationships between ideas.
- Can use a limited number of cohesive devices to link his/her utterances into clear, coherent discourse. Though there may be some ‘jumpiness’ in a long contribution.
- Can produce text that is generally well-organised and coherent, using a range of linking words and cohesive devices.
- Can structure longer texts in clear, logical paragraphs.
- Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with speakers of the target language quite possible without imposing strain on either party

Commitment to participate in the Rosario English Area courses validating the English requirement
Important: As this course fulfils the university’s institutional English requirement, its implementation and evaluation are subject to strict conditions regarding identity verification, active participation, and academic compliance.
To confirm your enrolment in the course, you must carefully read each of the points below, complete the required information, and declare your commitment at the end of the form.
I. Identity verification
For the purposes of control and identity validation, you must present and submit digital copies of the following documents:
- A color-scanned copy of your national ID card
- Your Universidad del Rosario student ID card
Prior to the start of classes, you will receive an email from englisharea@urosario.edu.co with instructions for submitting these documents digitally (in PDF or image format, in a legible and high-resolution file). Submission of these documents is a mandatory requirement for course participation. Failure to comply will result in the cancellation of your enrolment.
During the first session and throughout the course, you must have one of these physical documents available at all times, as the instructor may request to see it at any moment.
II. General participation requirements
Before the course begins:
- Verify the proper functioning of your UR virtual passport, especially your institutional email and access to E-Aulas. In case of technical issues, contact Servicios 2030 (servicios2030@urosario.edu.co) to resolve them before classes begin, as all course communication will be conducted exclusively through insctitutional channels.
During the course:
- Communicate any requests, questions, or concerns exclusively through your institutional UR email. For academic matters related to the class, your first point of contact will be the instructor. For any other inquiries regarding English Area courses or services, contact englisharea@urosario.edu.co.
- Actively participate in all course sessions.
- Meet all academic requirements of the program.
- Attend the course consistently and with commitment. Attendance and active classroom participation are essential to achieving academic objectives. In-class work is part of the evaluation process and accounts for 50% of the final grade.
In the event of justified absences, you must follow the procedure established by the university in circular normativa 164 of 2023 (link), and submit the corresponding excuse through the virtual services platform to Casa UR.
Please note:
- The minimum passing score for the course is 80 out of 100. The result will be expressed qualitatively (pass/fail) and will not affect your GPA.
- If you fail the course, you will not fulfil the university’s English requirement. In such case, you must consult your academic unit for available alternatives.
Before the start of remote classes:
Each student is responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary technological and infrastructure conditions to participate in class without issues. If you do not have a computer or a suitable space at home, you may attend the course from any of the university’s campuses using the resources available to students. In any case, the selected location must meet the required conditions stated here.
During remote sessions:
In the exceptional case of a serious internet connection failure that prevents you from quickly reconnecting to class, you must provide documented evidence and immediately email your instructor, attaching the evidence.
IV. Mandatory conditions for assessment activities during the course
1. In-class evaluative activities for remote access courses:
- You must keep your camera on during all evaluative activities, both written and oral, ensuring proper visibility of your face.
- If you are unable to turn on your camera for a justified and properly documented reason, the activity will be rescheduled no later than the following day, in agreement with the instructor and under the same participation conditions described in this commitment.
- Without a valid justification, the activity will not be rescheduled, and the grade will be zero.
2. Final exam
The course’s final exam will be conducted asynchronously and individually through E-Aulas, within the time frame previously defined and communicated by the instructor.
Mandatory conditions:
To take the final exam, the same technological and infrastructure requirements stated in this document apply: being in an individual space, without the presence or intervention of third parties; ensuring proper lighting and clear facial visibility; maintaining a stable internet connection throughout the entire test.
Additional technical requirements:
Before the exam:
- Install the Respondus LockDown Browser software on your computer and verify that it works correctly.
- Test the functionality of a mobile phone with a working camera and identify a suitable location to place it so that the entire environment is visible during the speaking section.
During the exam:
- You must activate the Respondus LockDown Browser software from start to finish for all asynchronous exam sections.
- The speaking section will take place during class hours. You must simultaneously connect your phone (with camera on) to the course’s Zoom room, ensuring a clear view of your environment. The camera must remain on until the end of the evaluation.
Important notes:
- You must have everything in place to fully comply with these requirements before the exam starts. Failure to meet these conditions will result in the exam being annulled and a grade of zero.
- b) The final exam will be recorded in full by Respondus LockDown Browser, with evidence stored in the E-Aulas management panel. This recording will be used as part of the verification and assessment process.
Important: The formative and disciplinary regulations (decreto rectoral 1728 of July 10, 2023) apply to all Universidad del Rosario students enrolled in these English courses. Students who commit any disciplinary infraction as defined in the regulation will be subject to the corresponding disciplinary process.
